Over the past three days, I had the privilege of returning to a place that shaped my journey-the Advanced School of Mass Communication (ASMAC) in the University of Yaounde II. This time, however, I wasn’t a student rushing to meet deadlines or perfecting a pitch deck. I was seated on the jury panel, evaluating the public defenses of students from the Corporate Communication and Advertising departments.
What an experience!
One after another, these young professionals stepped forward with communication projects that were nothing short of inspiring. From fintech and digital communication to banking, corporate reputation, branding, and institutional communication, their work reflected both strategic depth and creative boldness.
What impressed me most was their mastery of key industry concepts: corporate social responsibility, reputation management, brand identity, net promoter score, cross-media communication-the very building blocks of modern corporate communication. They didn’t just reference these ideas; they manipulated them with confidence, clarity, and purpose.
Sitting alongside Prof. Messanga Obama, Dr. Tang, and the seasoned media expert Tane Rostant was an honour in itself. Our discussions were rich, our debates meaningful, and our shared appreciation for the students’ brilliance undeniable.
My sincere gratitude goes to the Director of ASMAC, Prof. François Marc Modzom, for the trust and invitation.
On a personal note, the experience felt like a full-circle moment. ASMAC trained me first as a journalist, then as a public relations professional, and today, it continues to shape me as a researcher. Walking its halls again-this time to help assess the next generation-reminded me of the enduring power of education, mentorship, and community.
I salute the students who are boldly redefining the future of communication, and I praise the institution that continues to nurture excellence.
